In the mid-90s, The Petzl Meteor caused a sensation as a new style of climbing helmet designed for comfort and light weight. Greeted with an equal mix of enthusiasm and scepticism, it was initially proposed as a summer helmet, whose styling would help popularise the wearing of helmets, because of its appealing look and incredible light weight, not dissimilar to a cycle lid.
Over time, experienced mountaineers were using them all year, in all conditions, and the debates continued. What was beyond doubt, was that the METEOR, with its distinctive silver shell, triangular vent holes and 'dial-in' adjusters, rapidly became an icon of outdoor life, used for climbing, via ferrata and high level trekking. New colours enhanced the appeal.
For 2006, the METEOR is revised. Lighter, better fitting and with improved ventilation, it is set to maintain Petzl's iconic status among all climbers and outdoor enthusiasts.
